Yellow

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_863.jpg

Inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short story 'The Yellow Wallpaper'

The story flits between She, from the present day, processing her grief over a recent miscarriage by throwing herself into a project to decorate a new nursery, and Her, living in the late 19th century, who undergoes rest therapy at her psychiatrist husband’s request in order to ‘aid with’ her implicit postnatal depression.

The two women both develop an intense interest with the yellow wallpaper that lines the walls of the room at the top of the house. This interest spirals into obsession and infatuation, leading both women down a path further into their
grief where they unravel the womanly standards expected of them.
